    Today's speech

I want to know what your feelings are about President Obama’s today’s speech today to school children.  If you have any child(ren) what are your feelings should your child hear the president?  Why?  I think every president has spoken to children at the nation’s school as log as there was cable.

I think it the speech to the student's is to think and encourage students to think about what they could do personally to improve their time while getting an education.  What they could to and put into action to improve themselves.  At the White House internet site, there is this, http://www.ed.gov/teachers/how/lessons/7-12.pdf. this is from the US Department of Education who provides a menu of classroom activities of what teachers COULD do in their classroom.  this was produced by Teaching Ambassador Fellows, U.S. Department of Education.  This is for teachers who teach grades 7-12.

I know that the only school in Mid-Missouri not showing the speech is this my town, Centralia, Missouri.  I think that any school can offer the speech and if the parents think that their child should hear it.

    What are your feelings.

The President of the United States is addressing school children, nothing more, nothing less. Like every other President in the past. . I am horrified at how some people are trying to turn this world into a more bitter, disrespectful place in which people teach their children to disrespect the office of the Presidency. He is not a candidate stumping for votes, but the elected President talking about succeeding in education. I’m hoping Obama will infuse kids with the inspiration they need to stay in school and succeed. Our country needs hard-working, focused students to be our future leaders!

However, I think it would have been better received if he had done it during “prime time” and then retelevised at school. I feel as a parent I have the right and OBLIGATION to know what my children are being taught. Not all parents take this resposibility seriously which is why I feel that Obama decided he needed to do this in school where the teachers would ensure students attention. We must never assume that our teachers and leaders are free from error. There must be a check and balance especially with our most precious national asset…our children.

Regardless of your political feelings, consider the whole thing an opportunity for a teachable moment and a chance maybe to teach your kids that it’s important to respect someone’s views even if you disagree with them.
    *Just my opinion*

I personally didn't care for his speech I thought he could have done a lot better then what he did and I also think he could have put together a much better speech for the children I was very dissappointed not only for myself but also for the children.

Someone posted it here. I read it and it was fine; apparently the hoopla was about a class assignment that seemed to political.

I've not read the speech. But I think President Obama sets a good example for kids - speak "standard" English, study hard, stay in school, learn the social graces, excel, excel, excel. I live in an integrated neaighborhood and, while the black families admire him, I don't see evidence of their emulating him.
